About

Born in Ayrshire, I grew up in Spey Bay on the Moray coast, before graduating with an MA in Fine Art from the University of Edinburgh and Edinburgh College of Art with a distinction in painting in 1997.

I have shown my oil paintings professionally throughout the UK since 2008. My work, inspired by the Scottish Borders landscape where I live and work, is in many private collections in the UK and worldwide.  I have exhibited widely and have had a number of solo exhibitions.  I am currently represented by Morningside Gallery in Edinburgh and Cameron Contemporary Art in Brighton. I am a member of the Society of Scottish Artists and Visual Arts Scotland.

Landscape has always been a source of inspiration. My painting is based on my experience of the landscape around me and almost always features a solitary motif.  Often this is a tree or group of trees.  I am interested in the possibilities surrounding the focal point of trees, their presence and sculptural form, and their role in our lives and imaginations especially as a vehicle for pause and reflection.  More recently my work has started exploring singular clouds or the outline of the hills that I see everyday. I am interested in the constancy of these familiar images in our very turbulent world.

Like the meditative and reflective spaces I visit and that are familiar to me, I want my work to have a sense of contemplation and calm but also, like a memory or a moment that comes briefly into focus, I want the work to glow and to resonate.
